Picard 2.11 released

The Picard team is happy to announce that the final version 2.11 of MusicBrainz Picard is now available for download. MusicBrainz Picard is the official tag editor for the MusicBrainz database and helps you get your music collection sorted and cleaned up with the latest data from MusicBrainz.

This release brings multiple improvements for the AcoustID fingerprint scan and general improvements to matching files to search results for some specific cases. This final release reverts a change from the recent release candidate which broke loading recording relationships only without release relationships.

What’s new?

Scan and file matching improvements

Various improvements and corrections to how Picard performs AcoustID fingerprint searches and generally how it compares the existing metadata to find the best match on MusicBrainz have been made.

Most significantly this release works around issues on the AcoustID side where linked recordings can lack metadata, which resulted in Picard loading them as standalone-recordings without release information. Also fingerprint look up could fail on certain files with decoding problems, even if those did not impact the fingerprint calculation.

Also there were issues on certain edge cases when comparing metadata, like recordings not being marked as video being generally ranked lower, releases without any release type being ranked very low and metadata comparison for recordings without a set length failing.

In combination the changes lead to better overall results for scan and lookup.

UI tweaks

On macOS a font rendering issue led to spaces not being visible in some places, most significantly in the metadata view. This has been fixed by updating the Qt5 library.

Also in the log dialog the current log level is now shown directly without the need to click on the log level selection.
