The subject pretty much says it all — the new XML Web Service has been debugged and is now stable. This new web service was designed to replace the old web service since its better designed, more concise and a lot simpler to use.
If you are using the old web service directly or have been using libmusicbrainz (1.x/2.x) or libtunepimp (all versions) then you are using the old web service and you should make an effort to migrate your application to use the new XML web service. The old web service will stay in service for all of 2007, but we may get rid of it as early as 2008.

Thanks for your hard work on the new (and old!) web service, Rob! I’m glad we’re finally ready for this step and I hope people will like the new web service better than the old one.
What we need now are libraries for all the popular programming languages out there. We already have excellent python and C/C++ bindings and their design and documentation could be used for other languages as well.
If anybody feels motivated to write bindings in Ruby, Java, C#, etc., please send a message to mb-devel. I’ll do my best to provide support.
So, the old service (as used in libmusicbrainz v1 and v2) is deprecated, but the library for the new one (v3) is still in Beta?
When will it be out of Beta?

As far as I know, there haven’t been many volunteers for testing libmusicbrainz3 when Luks asked on mb-devel. I guess he didn’t want to release without at least some feedback from the community.
Sorry, I’m not a techie, but could this have anything to do with the fact that iEatBrainz no longer recognizes ANYTHING, either by fingerprint or by tag (including tracks that have previously been saved with MBIDs)? As a result I have to manually find tracks use the website and then manually apply them in the app, which – having spent a few hours today doing, I do not plan on repeating.
Is there anyone working on an OS X version of Picard, or are we too small a constituency to support any more?
