Sergey and Wendell at MusicIP have been working on two new reports:
- Tracks attached to the wrong artist: This list contains tracks with similar names, which have been connected to artists which may be ambiguous – often this indicates an error in either the track assocation, or the artists themselves. To resolve the conflict, tracks assigned to the incorrect artists should be moved to correct artists, or the artists should be merged if they represent the same musical source.
- PUIDs attached to the wrong artist: This list contains tracks which have the same PUID, but have been connected to conflicting artists. To resolve the conflict, PUIDs assigned incorrectly should be removed, tracks assigned to the incorrect artists should be moved to correct artists, or the artists should be merged if they represent the same musical source.

Is there a place for suggesting reports, or a framework for creating them?
I’ve been thinking you could highlight easily filled gaps, rather than problems e.g.
Biggest label (most releases) without a [founding date|homepage|wikipedia link etc.]
Biggest acts (most releases) without being assigned as either a person or group
Biggest people (most releases) without a [birth date|Wikipedia link etc.]
Biggest groups (most releases) without a [start year|members AR|wikipedia link etc.]

You need to write one .pl and one .inc file — take a look at an existing report and go from there.
Much thanks to the guys at MusicIP for these reports. Hopefully we can get all these cleaned up in no time.
Sadly, most of the artists listed are ones that I spent ages cleaning up at the beginning of the year.
Even artist comments and annotations don’t seem to stop some people from crediting the wrong artist.
Maybe we need some kind of check for same track title by similar artist when people add VA releases. Most of the errors occur on VA releases which don’t appear in artist subscription emails, so many slip in unchecked.
I have to admit, I’m not quite sure what these reports are actually telling me.
In the ones I’ve checked on, the tracks were only in one artist, and were correctly assigned to the correct disambiguation of that artist. Why they are on the report, or what is suggested might be wrong, therefore, is difficult to acertain.
Also, in other cases, I’m still seeing that these suffer from treating artist mbids as always unique, rather than noting that artist mbid:artist rowid is not a 1:1, but rather, is a n:1 relationship, so in some cases, the same identical artist is listed both as artist a and as artist b.
I think what you are seeing Brian, is that someone already pushed a lot of the more obvious edits through, and that the reports don’t seem get updated all that often. It’s been over a week already and it looks like the reports are still the same as they were in the very beginning.
