This weekend we’ve seen a rise in tagger traffic to the MusicBrainz site. This extra traffic is causing load spikes that give us the dreaded 502 proxy error messages. Now that the release is done I can focus more time on getting our various hardware issues solved and bring a new database server online before the load spikes return next weekend.
What can you do? There are three concrete things:
- Make a donation to help us cover our costs.
- Stop tagging for today and spend some time with your friends and family for Easter. 🙂
- If you must continue tagging, please use our UK mirror: http://www.uk.musicbrainz.org In the options dialog of your favorite tagging application, look for the tab that lets you set the server you’re using to tag. Enter http://www.uk.musicbrainz.org in that field and you should be good to go.
Sorry for the inconvenience, we’ll work on this as soon as possible!
Are mirrors updated in real-time?
The mirror servers are never more than 70 minutes out of date with the main server. They get updated 10 minutes after each hour.
I’d love to choose the Mirror, but there is something wrong with it. If you try to open a particular Artist like Iceeman ( http://www.uk.musicbrainz.org/artist/ba4c6960-6092-4b6a-897a-e5ffe02d6e7f.html ) you’ll get a System error.
Like this:
DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: permission denied for relation l_artist_label at /home/httpd/musicbrainz/mb_server/cgi-bin/Sql.pm line 496.
Someone should tell them to fix their mirror. ^^°
As an editor, I frequently edit the database then tag my music right after, so using a mirror could be problematic.
However, by default, the client could use a DNS round-robin address to select a mirror, or ask to select a close mirror on the first start-up.
ooooor…
4. Listen to the music you have already tagged, yet have never heard! 🙂
