Picard 2.10 released

The Picard team is happy to announce that the final version 2.10 of MusicBrainz Picard is now available for download. MusicBrainz Picard is the official tag editor for the MusicBrainz database and helps you get your music collection sorted and cleaned up with the latest data from MusicBrainz.

This release mitigates a critical security issue when loading WebP images, see below for details. In addition there are a several improvements, but mainly this release provides bugfixes and changes behind the scenes such as Python 3.12 compatibility and improved translations.

Picard 2.10 Release Candidate 1

The Picard team is happy to announce that a release candidate for version 2.10 of MusicBrainz Picard is now available for download. MusicBrainz Picard is the official tag editor for the MusicBrainz database and helps you get your music collection sorted and cleaned up with the latest data from MusicBrainz.

This release brings compatibility with Python 3.12 and improvements to both the translation process and the translations themselves. While the functional changes are relatively small, a lot of code restructuring took place. Hence we want to give this release wider testing before releasing the final version. More details below.

Picard 2.9.2 released

Picard 2.9.2 is a maintenance release for the recently released Picard 2.9 with fixes for reported issues. In particular this solves an issue where Picard could crash on exit leaving a thread running in the background, which prevented Picard to be started again.

The latest release is available for download on the Picard download page.

Picard 2.9.1 released

Picard 2.9.1 is a maintenance release for the recently released Picard 2.9 with fixes for reported issues and updated translations.
This release contains important fixes for a potential data loss on Windows and several crashes. Windows users are highly recommended to upgrade.

Picard 2.9 released

This release brings many changes, including single instance mode, new scripting variables, ID3v2.4 by default, new macOS icon and more. More details below.

Picard 2.9 Beta 3

The MusicBrainz Picard team has just released a third beta for the upcoming Picard 2.9. This addresses issues and feedback we got after the beta 2 release. See the section “What’s new?” for details.

Picard 2.9 Beta 3 is supposed to be the final pre-release we put out for wider testing and to gather feedback on the changes before the final 2.9 release.

Picard 2.9 Beta 2

After our first beta release for Picard 2.9 we had some improvements, but also did an unusual amount of additional refactoring for parts of the code. Especially the code webservice requests module and handling of locale settings got some important improvements.

Hence we decided to do a second beta for the upcoming Picard 2.9. This is a pre-release we put out for wider testing and to gather feedback on the changes before the final 2.9 release.

libdiscid 0.6.3 and bindings for D, Rust, Go and Hare

A new version 0.6.3 of libdiscid has been released. libdiscid is a C library that allows applications to easily calculate MusicBrainz and freedb disc IDs from audio CDs. It also can extract MCN and ISRC information.

The main focus for this release has been to provide updated source and binary packages compatible with current systems. But there is also new platform support for the Haiku operating system.

Picard 2.9 alpha 1 available for testing

Today we have released an alpha version for the upcoming Picard 2.9. The main change coming with this release is limiting Picard to a single instance by default and the ability to run commands inside this running Picard instance from the command line. This work was done by skelly37 as part of last year’s Google Summer of Code.

Keep in mind that we consider this an alpha release and it might contain bugs. As the single-instance mode by default is a significant change on how Picard is being run we want to gather some feedback on the new functionality before we do a final 2.9 release.
